Small Favor cover and wallpaper
Posted by priscellie at May 23, 2007 10:17 AM
Chris McGrath, the Dresden Files' cover artist, has posted the cover for Small Favor! And it's gorgeous. Check out the droolworthy full-sized version at Chris' website, then decorate your desktop with Small Favor-style wallpaper, assembled by Priscellie: 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024, 1600x1200, or 1920x1200. Share your thoughts on the forums! Check out Chris' website here, and listen to his podcast interview on The Butcher Block #2 here! You can also pre-order Small Favor on Amazon. CommentsYeah, especially since it says "Matrix" not in kanji (not the word "matrix") but in katakana, meaning (a) it's a word of foreign origina and (b)therefore actually the Matrix movie title written on the staff! Have the book now, maybe it says somewhere inside. Posted by: Neo McMatrix at April 1, 2008 06:27 PMReminds me of Roland Deschaine from Stephen Kings Dark Tower...other than that nice work. Posted by: Stuart1512 at August 5, 2007 03:41 AMIt's a bit difficult to tell, but it appears that in addition to the katakana "Matrix" there is additional script on the staff. I can't make out what it is, though... It really is awesome. The one thing that I'd disagree with is the connection with "matrix" in katakana. It's true that the first character is "Ma" - but the pronunciation is utterly different. In Japanese "Ma" is always pronounced like the ma in the word "mama" and never as in, well, "Matrix". To get "May" you would need to use the character for "me" not "ma".
That, combined with the fact that the "ma" is separated from the rest makes me lean to another interpretation. Now you would spell "tricks" with the same pronunciation as is indicated. Plus they do use "Magic" in katakana at times. Thus I thought a rather more comedic interpretation is for it to be read as "Magic Tricks"
