Turn Coat is #1!
Posted by priscellie at April 23, 2009 09:09 AM
What an achievement! The newest volume in The Dresden Files, Turn Coat, is #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List!
Have you read it yet? If not, grab a copy at the Jim-Butcher.com Store. Share your congratulations for Jim on the forum here. CommentsCongrats! It's well deserved. I love the series, and it's about time it received some recognition. Posted by: eric at August 28, 2009 12:45 AMI'll be honest. I was unaware if the Dresden Files until it was introduced to me through the shortlived Scifi channel TV show. I loved the idea of a professional wizard/noir detective story. I wisely picked up the first three books in the series and became completely hooked. The world Jim has has created and populated with such great characters is amazing. The show did it little justice. Another awesome Dresden book. I have been reading Sci Fi since the 70's, and NO ONE can turn a phrase like Jim Butcher. He is like the Shakespeare of Fantasy/Sci Fi. There are other Dresden clones out there, and some are not bad, but no one holds a candle to the original. It is tough to wait for the next novel, but good writing is not fast food, though Harry Dresden might disagree! Posted by: Jeff at August 13, 2009 01:26 PMI have quite literally read thousands of books. I can't go into a bookstore and find a shelf in the Sci-Fi section that doesn't have an author or book that I've read. The Dresden Files and the Codex Alera series are hands down my favorite series. When you're many, many books in, and I'm still buying hardbacks... That's awesome. I'm thrilled to read all the positive comments on this page. Incredible work Jim. You're da man. Posted by: Richard Sasser at August 5, 2009 07:24 PMReading the comments waiting for the paperback. I hate you Jim. Only joking, I love ya! Posted by: Sean at August 3, 2009 11:37 AMThe #1 was well-deserved. I have eagerly awaited and then promptly devoured every Dresden file that has come in front of my eyes. Turncoat was no exception. Like one of the other posters noted, Jim Butcher has restored my faith in serial novels. I had thought the art form was dead. Thank you so much for restoring my faith, enriching my imagination, and rekindling my all too worn pathos. Posted by: Don Wilson at August 2, 2009 05:19 PMLong time fan, it's always difficult to wait for the next book, you leave me hanging wondering what will happen next. I love Harry, Michael, Molly, Uriel, and everyone. I love the Fey, and Toot, I feel you have something in store for Toot, why else is he growing? I can't wait for the next one, please keep them coming Posted by: Lisa at July 24, 2009 10:22 PMThe hits just keep on coming! Best one yet. But if you don't start writing faster, I will need to find a 12 step program. I get the shakes waiting for the next book. Love the books but can't watch the show after I found the books. They needed to read them! Posted by: Richard at July 19, 2009 01:22 AMI am a fan for life, this series and the CODEX series. I look for them every 6 or 7 months. You need to start a 3rd series so that I don't have to wait so long for a fix!! One question, why hasn't Harry made some magical weapons or defenses for Murphy so that she can get down into the trenches more. Keep Writing and I'll keep reading. Posted by: Ed at July 9, 2009 08:10 PMJust finished Turncoat....WONDERFUL! Isn't it time for the next book? Posted by: Laura at July 8, 2009 08:31 PMYou did it again!!! one nice thing about starting a good series late is that there are enough books already out there to keep one busy reading for a while ... then you hit the end and have to start waiting. :( all i can say is that i'm shocked you haven't hit #1 before now, especially with the extra exposure the tv series must have brought. congratulations, it is very well deserved! Posted by: lachapakhan at July 3, 2009 05:44 PMThe Dresden story cannot be topped by any other. i'm a big fan of Glen cook and Steven Burst. Both have characters similiar to Jim's but neither one of the writers are very prolific. I Would spend YEARS waiting for the next installments of their books to come out. When I started reading Jim butchers "Storm Front" when it first came out I had no intention of waiting around for yet ANOTHER series that I liked to let me down. So I never really looked for any of Jim's books after readying " Storm Front " One day, a few years later I noticed he had a few more books out. I re-purchased " Storm Front " and bought Fool's Moon and grave Peril. Since then I have never looked back. Jim's worked has satisfied me like none of my previous favorite writers ever did. He's hard working ,dedicated and thouroughly seems to enjoy writing the Dresden files. Thank-you Jim for all the hard work and dedication you've restored my faith in serial novels. -Mike- Posted by: Mike Morgan at June 23, 2009 11:23 AMit was seriusly awesome Posted by: Johan Larsson at June 22, 2009 04:22 AMAnother great book, just as I expected. Well-paced, brilliantly executed and planned. Jim Butcher, sir, you are a WRITING GOD!! Congratulations on the #1, you definitely deserved it, even before this book. Can't wait for the next book and the Codex Alera finale. You are the best author out there. Posted by: Sean at June 20, 2009 01:26 PMi was looking for something to read at work being security i havent much to do at night since everythings mostly automated. i just have to say if they had stuck to the book the TV show would have been better. also i wonder if they would ever make the series into movies? Posted by: Sendo at June 5, 2009 08:53 AMFreaking awesome, as usual. Everyone should know about the greatness of the Dresden Files. Turn Coat kept up the great pace of the series, and I can't wait for the next one. Or the next in Codex Alera for that matter. Keep it up and so will we! =D Posted by: Kevin at May 31, 2009 01:47 PMAwesome book! When's the next one! Posted by: Richard at May 30, 2009 11:18 PMI only started reading the series because James Marsters did such a fabulous job reading the audiobooks and after hearing the first three chapters, I HAD to read it myself. Now I hear his sweet, sexy voice in my head the entire time I'm reading. Talk about delicious icing on an absolutely fabulous cake! I intentionally tried to read this book as slowly as I could and still could only drag it out a week! What am I supposed to do with the next 11 months until the next one comes out?! I was stupid enough to let a friend start reading my old volumes and now I can't even reread the series! Please write fast!!!!!!!!!! Posted by: marge at May 22, 2009 08:56 AMCongrats on Turn Coat, Another great book that was impossible to put down once started. Looking froward to the next adventure.... Changes. Thanks for making reading a Treat!! Chris Posted by: Chris at May 15, 2009 06:29 PMKeep em comming! I cant wait for the next book in the series to be released. Posted by: russ at May 13, 2009 09:07 PMThis series hands down beats any other I've read, I was actually giddy going to get it and was reading it through town, at the bus-stop, on the bus, during dinner and actually on the phone aswell !! I'm not even sure when they hung-up? :) But do these even get seen? Coz the series was like someone elses interpretation of it which made it bad, and they should make the books into kind of a dark or dark humour movie series. and why in turn coat dya think 'stars and stones' is trying to usurp 'hells bells' rightfull place, it sounds like it came from 'the sword in the stone' the animated move :( too generic. but anyway frikkin awesome on the series. Posted by: Max at May 13, 2009 07:45 AMAny book in this series by Jim Butcher is a great read. I hadn't picked up a book in over a year when my dad gave me Storm Front and said "Try it." A month later and I have read every book, it practically consumes all the time I'm not at work. In fact, I'm tired at work most of the time because I stay up too late every night for the simple fact that I can't put down the damn book to go to sleep! I can't wait for the next one and until then I'm starting on the Codex Alera series. Thanks for getting me back into reading Jim, your the reason I remembered how captivating a damn good book can be! Posted by: Sean at May 9, 2009 02:06 AMI can't believe I overlooked The Dresden Files for so long. I started reading them on a recommendation from a friend just over a month ago, and now I've already finished Turn Coat and I'm dying for more. Jim Butcher is without doubt one of the best writers on the face of the earth right now. Right now I'm off to pick up the first book of Codex Alera. Thank you, Jim, for restoring my faith in fantasy as a genre. I was starting to think I'd need a new obsession. Posted by: Padraig Fagan at May 8, 2009 11:41 AMlove the book especially the tender moment harry and murphy share Posted by: loner at May 7, 2009 10:29 PMLove the book. Outstanding characters that just keep getting better. Hopeing for video game. An Sci fi channel was dumb for letting your show go it was just getting good. Maybe you will get another shot. Keep writing and we'll keep reading. Posted by: Aaron at May 7, 2009 05:12 PMAnother great book. I read the book and enjoyed it so much that I just bought the audio. My family are listening to instead of watching TV. Jim have overcome Orson Scott Card as my favorite write. Carrie Vaugh is a close second so don't get too cocky Mr. Butcher. I love the detailed characters. Toot Toot is da bomb!!! Posted by: Eugene at May 6, 2009 08:30 PMAnother Excellent book, I read the first book as a recommendation from amazon and have not looked back, only trouble is weve got to wait for the next installment......
What a phenomenal series! I have spread the word to everyone I know. I even have my father reading the tenebrous tales of Harry Dresden. If you knew my father, you would understand how crazy that is! That being said, The Dresden Files appeal to so many different people because of the depth of character created in Harry and the realistic approach given to a world that seems so foreign. I anticipate every chapter! Congratulations on Turn Coat making #1, Jim!!! Posted by: Alden at May 5, 2009 03:51 PMI picked up the first Dresden files book on a lark. It was one of the best accidents that ever happened to my literary world! I love the blend of scifi magic and detective noir, and the character of Harry is just damn likeable. I have loved the evolution of the life of Harry and his compatriots, and the continued excitement of each novel had me burning through the first 8 novels at a weekly pace. Now,to savor the moment(and not have to wait months between my Dresden fix) i only allow one chapter per week. It is almost crazy how much I love The Dresden Files. I started from reading book 7 and when I finished the book, all I could think about was reading 1 through 6 and 8 and on. Now that I finished Turn Coat, I can't freaking wait for the next book. Oh and FYI the Dresden Files are the first books I have ever finished reading, let alone fell in love with. Please don't stop making them. Try and get the TV series back too. I got that on DVD also. Oh yeah and the graphic novel and the short story. I love everything Dresden! Posted by: James B. at May 3, 2009 12:42 AMCongratulations. I think having a #1 seller is a writers dream. Not for the $$$ as much as for the fact that so many enjoy your work. It's quite rewarding, yes? #1 bestseller for a #1 series. Mel Posted by: Melissa D. at April 28, 2009 09:49 AMCongrats! This was a phenomenal read. I love who Harry has become throughout the years and how those around him have grown, as well. Jim has a talent for creating very real characters, whom I actually cried for at the end. He is absolutely brilliant. Posted by: Jessi at April 28, 2009 09:07 AMI got the book on April 7th and completed the reading by day end. All Bucther's latest books deserve 10/10. Right now Butcher is my favorite author and I would recommend him to all. Posted by: Rockstick at April 28, 2009 12:41 AMAwesome news, Drezden deserves to be on #1. I hope that sequel will be released as soon as possible. Can't wait until the next one even though parts of this one made me sad... Posted by: Sarah at April 26, 2009 05:49 PMI thoght the audiobooks did not come out until the 30th? I have to say awesome book, but Dead Beat and Summer Knight are still my favorites. Posted by: Bobbyearl at April 26, 2009 10:08 AMOh my. This is one of the best books I have ever read. I started reading this series last year and it has not disappointed. I forced myself to make it last more than 3 days because I didn't want it to end. I can't wait to see the ramifications of the events later in the series. Posted by: Andrew Elder at April 26, 2009 02:23 AMGood God man! Quit writing such fantastic books! I have to get some sleep sometime!! Wait, no I don't, that's what they make coffee for. Keep 'em coming! I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!!!!!! im not finished with this book yet but i will be soon i cant put it down except to write this comment haha. GOD I HOPE THERE I MORE ON THE WAY :) Congrats! Every year I look forward to reading the next installment of the Dresden Files. I just finished reading Turn Coat. It's terrific! It lived up to its expectations. Congratulations on it being #1. Posted by: Rita Smith at April 23, 2009 05:07 PMWay to go, its about time you are rewarded for your writing. You take us to your world with every book. This time, you led us to explore our inner monster. Posted by: Lisa at April 23, 2009 05:02 PMCongrats Jim! From Kirby (werewolf) and Amanda (Carpenter)!!! This is awesome news, congrats! Ah, but since I bought all Dresden series from Orbit's paperback version... (sorry, just plain OCD) that means I can only read it in Jan 2010! Must start buying hardcovers now... hmm.
Congrats, but not surprised. Now for the next book! Posted by: bkwyrm at April 23, 2009 03:38 PMCongrats Longshot! You deserve it, man. Posted by: Nathan at April 23, 2009 02:33 PMGreat work as always, not quite up the the high points like Dead Beat and Proven Guilty, but still quite enjoyable. Looking forward to First Lord's fury and subsequent Dresden Files books Posted by: Crassus at April 23, 2009 02:22 PMHi, Hey... I have read and currently own all of your Dresden File books... except Turn Coat, I am looking forward to it, and congratulations on reaching number one. I also own the series that appeared on Sci-Fi. Are you planning on continuing that aspect of the Series? I personal believe that the books would make great movies, but a movie can never live up to your writing. I will continue to enjoy your writing until the finish of the Dresden Files. Posted by: John Kirby at April 23, 2009 11:34 AMCongrats on Turn Coat! I got the audio book, cause I love James Marsters, and it's AWESOME! Definitely the best yet, especially with him going to Council Central in Edinburgh, and then with all the stuff on the island. Most Excellent ;-) Joe Posted by: Joe Nelson at April 23, 2009 11:30 AMPost a comment |
Never expected to go gaga over "The Dresden Files", but I have--deliriously. Spent many nights reading the series till 3 am--and going to the office bug-eyed--but they were worth it. Long Live Harry Dresden! (And Jim Butcher, of course)
