from the first book i loved the codex, really i loved the idea of the furies. Maybe you could jump ahead in the future to when Tavi is older and has the relm mostly together struggling with all the feral furies
I shall miss Tavi greatly. i hope you reconsider stopping the series.

Finally finished FLF and I loved it! The same great sense of humor that animates The Dresden Files can be seen in a much more refined setting in this phenomenal novel. Bravo Jim! I'm always a loyal fan and can't wait for Changes!

Like many other readers, i am immensely saddened to see this series end. It has been one of my favorite series ever since i read the first book. I wish it had gone on far longer, like the Dresden Files.

Posted by: Joshua at January 3, 2010 04:33 AM

I hope the Dresden series NEVER ends. Harry was, is, and always shall be The Man!

Posted by: Bob at December 29, 2009 05:57 PM

Jim, the series was phenomenal. The first book, while it had it's holes (as every book does inevitably), was an incredibly driven look into unique, vivid world. I enjoyed every book, devouring them whole within hours of purchasing them. I hope that the future sees more books back in this world. Canea, Alera, the Icemen's territory (I forget the name) and all the places in between... Fantastic read. What are the chances of a follow-up series?

Posted by: Keith at December 17, 2009 05:14 PM

Wow, Jim...you REALLY outdone yourself on FLF. The Codex Alera is by-far the best-written, most descriptive, amazingly twisting storyline that I've ever read. From the very beginning of FOC all the way through FLF, there were tiny details that showed up that most authors wouldn't bother to recount. Everything tied in so PERFECTLY at the end (though I want MORE!!). The characters were very "human"...I almost feel like I know them on a personal level. Like Fidelias and his internal struggles...that's what makes him such an amazing character. He's a man that wants to do what's right even though he knows that it's not what's "right"...genius...absolute genius...

Just finished this book and have to say that the Codex Alera series has moved up into my one of my all-time favorites. The characterization and world-building are really well done. Too bad it ends here, lets just hope Jim has more Fantasy up his sleeve in the future.

Posted by: Kevin at December 12, 2009 03:06 PM

HI Jim, Loved the entire series. I picked up Academs Fury first and then realized how much fun the books were.
Just finished FLF and the one thing that really stands out is how rich all the characters are. They have lives, histories, a future and its so beautifully connected.
Do keep writing

Posted by: Lisa at December 12, 2009 10:41 AM

I was really hoping for a boy, O well. Keep it up Jim!

Posted by: dandman at December 9, 2009 10:12 PM

I listen to your books on audible files, Your books are the best! I couldn't wait for FLF, I even ordered the actual book, it did not dissapoint, I loved it! Please write more about those wonderful characters that you created. I listen during my commute, when I paint, when I do dishes, I love the Dresden Files as well. Kate Reading and James Marsters are the best also! No complaints, can't wait for the next book!!

Posted by: Anna at December 8, 2009 09:07 PM

Let me first say I love JB's books. All of them. I have all of them in hard cover that were available in hard cover. But didn't Rucus (Max and Crassius' father die in the battle with the Vord Queen? If that is the case how did he take Crassius' mother back home with him? Maybe im wrong.

Posted by: Ingrid at December 7, 2009 04:12 PM

I am really sad that the Codex Alera series have been completed. The last book was too short!! I could have happily gone on to a few more chapters. Please, PLEASE give us a few short stories involving Tavi, Kitai, Max, Crassus, Marcus etc (i.e the whole cast of characters and even some new ones) very soon!

Posted by: CY at December 6, 2009 04:33 AM

Loved the book to no end and have made my friends read it and they also got hooked by it. Jim you are one of the best writers in the world and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in the years to come.

Thank you for writing the Codex it was simply an amazing story.

Posted by: Erik at December 5, 2009 06:40 PM

I have read some series that have gone on way too long, but i don't know if I can really the Codex Alera being over. I couldn't put FLF down until I finished, but then I dreaded it being over. Guess I'll have to start back over at the beginning. I still have the next Dresden File to look forward to!

Posted by: VICTORIA YOUNG at December 4, 2009 02:15 AM

I'm actually delighted to see an author who can write a good (excellent!) series and then END it, with a conclusion and everything. Too many writers get caught up in the series and go on and on, and end up never answering all the storylines. It's good to see a series where you get some closure, rather than endless questions, and this gives me hope that the Dresden Files will get an equally spectacular climax. Now, just don't stop writing - please!

Posted by: Kate at December 3, 2009 12:50 AM

I couldn't get on with my life until I finished reading this. I've thoroughly enjoyed the Codex Alera series. Thank you Jim for creating such a rich, complex world with the most inspiring, witty, courageous and "human" characters ever. The epilogue felt a little rushed and left me wanting more, but maybe that was intentional ;) Thanks again!

Posted by: Tammy at December 3, 2009 12:45 AM

Finally got my hardcover of FLF. Can't wait to get started. Thanks Jim

Posted by: Mike at December 2, 2009 06:33 PM

I just finished first lords fury.I have enjoyed every book in the alera series and i hope you change your mind about ending the series. There are many story lines left.I'm sure you will get many ideas from you readers.I can think of many myself. So give an old man something to look forward and please continue the series. Thanks Barry

Posted by: barry at November 29, 2009 04:12 AM

Well, I truly loved the FLF, and I'm about to read it again.

I personally would like to see more in this world (I'm particularly concerned about a certain "friendship" problem that I'd like to see resolved). There are still some stories about certain people about which I'd like to know more. And if there is any criticism I'd make of this book, it would be that I'd have liked to have seen less battle/combat details and more relationship details.

Just my preference. I've very much enjoyed this series.

Been an avid fan of Jim since my ex-boyfriend urged me to read Storm Front a few years ago, and then again urged me to read FoC once I had become a slave to the Dresden Files. High fantasy has always been my first love--and Codex grew to be my favourite book series of all time. I used to have such trouble picking just one favourite when people would ask.

Bittersweet now--sad to see Alera go, but undoubtedly satisfied with the series conclusion. Some loose strings left makes it all the better in a way: we get to wonder, and use our imaginations. As long as we don't have *all* the answers, the Codex isn't really over. Loved every page, every sarcastic and witty remark, and every character (yes, *everyone* included--the less desirable ones must be loved for what they are, because without them, life would be unutterably boring for our heroes).

The best line from the series still comes, in my opinion, from Captain's Fury:

"The plan is insane," Ehren said. "*You* are insane." He looked around the inside of the tent. "I'll need some pants."

Have not read FLF, but have been a fan since Furies of Calderon. My copy of FLF is on the way to me here in Singapore, and hopefully I will read it during the holidays. No matter how the series end, I am grateful for Jim Butcher for bringing a new world in my life. I am now ready to switch to Dresden...

Posted by: Mimi at November 26, 2009 01:47 AM

That was absolutely amazing and exhilarating to read. Oddly, I don't feel like there absolutely needs to be more, although so many more stories could be told about it--any possibilities of short stories, maybe? But it definitely came to an end, and a satisfying (if question-filled) one. Then again, I suspect it's the sacred right of the author to drive his readers insane by not telling us things.

But that was easily the best book of the Codex Alera, in my opinion. Thanks so much for it, Jim.

Posted by: Lee at November 25, 2009 07:57 PM

It was a great book, Thank you for the great world you created.

Posted by: Sean at November 25, 2009 07:55 PM

Well, Jim, if this was your warm up for how to end Dresden in the coming years, I say you are more than ready to take the mound. Not that I am saying I want to see Dresden end soon. :)

Posted by: Scott at November 25, 2009 06:43 PM

just finished it and was left with a lot of questions
thinking theres another book as a lot of strings were left untied

Posted by: eric at November 25, 2009 04:25 PM

Read it, finished it, loved it.

I hope there are more stories, perhaps about Doroga and the Marat, about the Canim, and others.

Mark

Posted by: Mark at November 25, 2009 01:15 PM

I'm almost half way through Cursor's Fury(book 3) right now and can't wait to read the rest of the series. I wasn't much of a reader until I found the Codex Alera series. Thanks Jim.

Posted by: Mike at November 25, 2009 11:14 AM

gee, thanks for the spoilers in that comment. Would hate to have to read the book myself.

Posted by: chris at November 25, 2009 09:53 AM

I am sad the series has come to an end, if it means no more books about Alera. On the other hand, the cliff-hangers at the end of each book made the year between long....
I hope he will find books to write about the world, not necessarily a series.
And, there are still stories waiting -
{SPOILERS REMOVED BY ADMINISTRATOR}
...and I am sure there are more areas to be explored, if the mood strikes.
:)

Posted by: AB at November 25, 2009 08:26 AM

What an adventure loved it from start to finish...so sad to see it end.

Posted by: moana at November 25, 2009 02:43 AM

Since he has created the world of Alera,
New stories could be from the future or the past.

Posted by: Redhunter at November 25, 2009 01:33 AM

It is sad to see a very entertaining series come to an end.....but i would rather it does not become stretched out. This series lasted as long as the story needed to be told and it is honestly great that Jim isn't trying to prolong things just to make more money.

Posted by: Rick at November 24, 2009 11:19 PM

Already finished with FLF. Saddened that the series is over, but very, very happy with the way things were wrapped up.
The only thing I'd have liked to see... should have let us see Senator Valerius get eaten by vord!

Posted by: Dave M. at November 24, 2009 07:04 PM

Actually I am pretty sure Jim is going to keep the Dresden Files to one book a year. I read somewhere he was planning on having other books to file in the spot for the codex. Not necessarily a new series.

Posted by: Ahluwagr at November 24, 2009 03:00 PM

The Codex Alera is so amazing! I hate to see it come to an end...but I can't wait to see what Jim has in store for his next work!

Posted by: Joshua at November 24, 2009 02:32 PM

Well, since Ji won't have to "switch" between stories anymore, I vote for 3 Dresden Files books a year. :oP

(Er, actually 1 a year with the same quality is better than 2 lower quality ones, in my opinion)

Posted by: smoofles at November 24, 2009 01:09 PM

Ah the end of another great series. Oh well, maybe he'll soften up in a few years and come out with more in a related, but not Tavi-centric series. Maybe about the next Princeps or if Amara and Bernard have a child. Maybe about Masha. Who knows? There's always a chance.

Posted by: Josh at November 24, 2009 12:43 PM

I'm quite sad to see this series come to an end.

Posted by: Kip at November 24, 2009 12:21 PM

I have mixed feelings about this. I love the codex, and I'm really excited about a new book coming out ( I always am.) But the conclusion... Oh well, maybe this means that the Dresden Files will be coming out twice a year...
