Many broadway stagehands are Dresden fans, what show would you like a backstage tour when here for NYCC?

The first chapter does have that raw feel to it, but that is how Harry feels after suddenly finding out something so huge. As a father myself, I know the feeling.

remember that Mac, and Morgan knew each others first names, i got twenty bucks that says Mac turns out to have some pretty extraordinary skills. Jim always seems to hint at him being more than normal... although it is hard to find really good beer on a tight budget

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that some of the characters in these gooks posess a measure of prophesy, i mean father forthill, the gatekeeper, michael, and mac just joined the ranks, kinda fitting that the first time mac speaks in full sentences that there is an unimaginable sense of prophesy.

It seems disjointed because that's how Harry's brain was working after the first sentence. It will be interesting to see who the second character is that he runs into in Chapter 2 and if his thoughts congeal a little better.

I too agree with Richard; It didn't seem particularly rough to me (although perhaps I was just over-excited at reading the first chapter). To me it felt... emotional? Raw? Not gonna lie, I had tears prickling in my eyes two-thirds of the way through...
... and then Mac and "grammar" made me laugh.
Spoiled a good book-cry :P.

It's not a rough draft but given Jim's aggressive writing schedule in 2009 it may have a few rough edges. Not that I'm complaining! I'll take a guy who puts out a book a year on schedule (warts and all) over some kids who takes 3 years off and then decides he cant finish his story in less than 3000 pages.

Am I the only one happy that Turn Coat finally came to paperback? I love the hardcover version but its a beast to carry around, lets say, on the train. Or on my lunch at work. I'm going to enjoy re-reading while waiting for the next one in April.

I would agree with Richard. I think the writing style Butcher chose for Chapter 1 was intentionally rough to better show the fact that Dresden was in shock. Considering that all the books are from Dresden's point of view, I think it was quite effective.

yeah this did seem like a rough draft, mickeyblu, but it also seemed to carry the shock of finding out that Harry has a kid. but what got me is that McAnally actually said more in this chapter than he has in all the other books combined!!!!

Is it just me or does Jim's writing style seem a little different. It seemed off to me. Like its still a rough draft version
