Changes: #1 on NYT!
Posted by priscellie at April 17, 2010 10:22 PM

Congratulations, Jim! Changes is #1 on the New York Times Bestseller List and #3 on the USA Today Bestseller List (which is a list of all books--fiction, nonfiction, children's, etc--not separated by category).

May it stay in the top ten for many weeks to come!

If you haven't read it yet, you can buy it through the Jim-Butcher.com store in hardcover and audio formats, read by James Marsters. If you've already read it, come on down to the forum and share your thoughts.

Just powered through CHANGES, and am pretty well emotionally exhausted. Wowzers.

Congratulations!!
Just finished Changes. What a book! I love all Dresden books but this book is the best.
From start to end, it was thrilling, breathtaking, heart-aching and funny.
When can we read next book??? I feel like when I saw Han Solo was carbon freezed, worried and frustrated.

Posted by: Mika at April 27, 2010 09:48 PM

Congrats on making it to Number 1!!! I guess this restores a LITTLE of my hope for humanity if NYT can recognize Butcher's greatness!

But then, how can you NOT be glued to a book that twists the plot of an entire series in the first sentence!? Absolute best start, and most frustrating end! I screamed so loudly at the last pages that my husband came running to see who was stabbing me. Bring on the next one!

Are we there yet???

Jim -

I'm proud of you and what you've accomplished. Not only as an author, but as a Father and Husband. You've done a Man's job.

Have read the Dresden series many times, loved "Changes", especially the cliffhanger ending! Couldn't believe I'd reached the end (in only 1 day) and then to be left hanging like that! Sheer genius! I will be breathlessly awaiting the next Dresden adventure! May Harry Dresden never die!

Posted by: Chris at April 27, 2010 11:33 AM

I LOVE this series! What a great flawed hero! I keep introducing Harry to everyone who loves books. Congratulations on your success, Jim. As for a second effort at putting Harry on the screen, I can't imagine who the film producers would find who could capture Harry's strength, sexiness, vulnerability, and heart as you have so deftly portrayed it in your text. If the movie happens, they better make you the major Consultant for bringing Harry to life.

I am a new fan and picked up my first Dresden Book about 3 months ago. I couldn't stop and was at the last book before changes was released. I was thrilled to see Changes released and now find myself ready to burst waiting to know how Harry gets out of his current situation!!! Excellent series. I just started Codex Alera series. I am already sucked in!!!!

I have read and re-read the entire Dresden Files series multiple times and waited with baited breath for the last 4 books. This book completely blew me away. I demolished it in about 5 hours and was literally yelling at the characters, cackling with glee and wide eyed in awe throughout the entire thing. Spectacular! Now please please get on the next book while I settle in for a reread. Cheers, Jim!

My apologies, I have had problems with my computer and sometimes it doesn't register when things go through. I did not mean to post 3 times. Many apologies again. Maybe a wizard got too close to my computer. ( It is 10 years old.)

Congrats Jim you evil, evil man. I've been following Dresden from the begining and I can honestly say that you are my favorite author of all time. I knew that she would get him to do it eventually *wink wink*. I'll be waiting even more restlessly for the next one than I did for this one. Keep up the spectacular work

Posted by: Russell at April 24, 2010 12:33 PM

Dude! I read Changes althrough my classes and when I got to the cliffhanger I nearly screamed. Great book, and keep up the good work Jim! Write the next book fast. I'll be waiting!

Posted by: Lee at April 23, 2010 06:55 PM

Read this in the Kindle app on the iPad. Loved it! Love all your books. Please write more!

Well, well. #1. Congratulations Jim.

I, like everyone here, got hooked on the first read of Dresden (I started with book 1, but it would not have mattered). While waiting for Changes I started reading another Sci Fi book and actually had to throw it out. After reading Jim Butcher one does not easily go back to lower quality work. I absolutely loved this story. I loved the ending. And, I'd be content even if the whole series ended there (I know, I know, fans will yell at me). But an artist should choose how they define themselves and you are so damned good I figure we should give you that license. Still, it "was" a cliffhanger, right?

I will soon explore your other works while waiting for any future effort you can bring. If that is another Dresden saga, I will spend my last dime buying it if it were to come to that.

Congratulations again on a fantastic and well-deserved ranking.

Jim Butcher, you wonderful, awful person! I hope your fingers become glued to the keyboard until you finish the next book, after you left us with that cliffhanger!
(This is fan code for:Keep it up, I loved every minute.)

Just finished Changes and I must say....Wow the ending blew me away.

Posted by: Brian at April 21, 2010 11:11 PM

I am a recent Dresden Files fan (but have read all of them so far and fell in love with the drama, magic and especially the humor of this series. BUT, so help me, if you don't come up with something after Changes, I will never, ever buy any of your books again. It left me devastated! (But I have to admit, I will always enjoy going back and reading any and all of your Dresden Files books again, and again, and again....)!

Posted by: Pam at April 21, 2010 06:35 PM

I read the book last week. Congrats, Jim! Definitely deserves the honor. Why, you ask? Because it was AWESOME!

Posted by: Evan at April 21, 2010 12:37 PM

What can I say here but congratulations! I really LOVED the book as I have all the others. Chapter 48 absolutely devasted me though. It was quite HARSH and I bawled my head off. :-( Thanks for ripping my heart out!!!

Quite the cliff-hanger ending as well...but I'm pretty sure Harry will be okay.

I've been reading The Dresden Files for years - you never disappoint - cause a GREAT deal of Angst as I have to wait for the NEXT one, yes, but never disappoint. Got my wife and kids into them, too.

Loved Codex Alera, too. Wouldn't mind one with the trials and tribulations a bit down the road - re-building an empire, and raising kids ~ particularly "gifted" ones ~ opens all sorts of their own possibilities, never mind the continual threats. Remember the Marat influence - never mind Tavi's own youth.

Back to Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden: Loved that you are comfortable enough with your own skin to play the "ponder the parallels" to who'd be whom vis a vis that older author's work. Loved the discourse and rationale.

Cliffhangers, cliffhangers, where would we all be without them. Almost like the ending of every episode of Lost in Space, as Robbie the Robot waved his arms, frantically, saying "Danger, Will Robinson, Danger." Sucks us all in for the next episode.

We'll all have to see where you lead us. I'd love to really get into it, but I don't want to be a spoiler.

Congratulations on making it to #1!

I enjoyed it even though the twist and ending had been spoiled for my by an uncareful comment on this site.

By a Nook from Barnes and Noble, You'd have been able to read it by now. :)

Posted by: John Waldum at April 19, 2010 01:59 PM

I read 9 Dresden Books in 9 days. It's a shame and a blessing to wait 4 weeks to get a book and read it in 8 hours. I expect it's going to happen again in a week or two. I can't wait!!
Maybe you can blow up the Blue Bug and get Harry something he can stretch his legs in!! I know he had a jeep in the TV series, maybe you can get him an OLD, like Korean War Jeep...
Just as long as you keep bringing us Dresden books. Love 'em!!

Posted by: Dave Kitchener at April 18, 2010 10:57 PM

Excellent book, I assume the series will be continuing then?

Posted by: Max at April 18, 2010 09:10 PM
