Backup Cover and Storm Front SE status update!
Posted by priscellie on Mar 25 08

We now have the cover art for Backup, plus a status update on their Special Edition of Storm Front! From Subterranean Press:

We've completed the design and initial proofing of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files novelette, Backup. All that's left is for Jim to set pen to the signature pages and take a final proofing tour through the book himself. Mike Mignola (of Hellboy fame) has graced us with the striking cover as well as four black-and-white interior illustrations, making this a rare treat for Jim (and Mike's) many fans. Printed in two colors throughout, with such great illustrations and a rare glimpse at Harry Dresden's world through the eyes of his demon brother, Thomas, Backup has turned into a very special project indeed.

Collector's Note: A reminder that we're also doing a limited edition of the first Dresden Files novel, Storm Front, which is pre-selling exceptionally well. In the two days since we first announced it for preorder, over half of the print run for Storm Front has been reserved. As we're only doing 526 copies, you might want to get your order in soon or risk disappointment. We currently have a proposal in with Jim's main publisher to do more of the Dresden Files novels as limiteds, so now's your chance to get in on the ground floor.

Dresden TV Pilot Airs Tonight on SciFi!
Posted by priscellie on Mar 07 08

Tonight, the Sci-Fi Channel is finally broadcasting the unaired Dresden Files TV pilot in the US! This two-hour cut of "Storm Front" features exciting new scenes that were cut from the one-hour version that aired last year. Unfortunately, it's slated for 3AM EST. I think this is why they invented TiVo.

Find out what time the episode airs in your time zone here.

Artwork for BACKUP Just Turned In
Posted by iago on Mar 06 08

Yoinked from the Subterranean Press site:

Jim Butcher Update — Artwork for BACKUP Just Turned In

Just a quick update on Backup, the Dresden Files tale by Jim Butcher due later this year. Mike Mignola has just turned in the cover and interior illustrations for our 72 page hardcover chapbook. The limited edition is long sold out, but copies of the $20 trade hardcover may still be preordered. Given Jim's legions of fans, we suspect this one won't be around for long after it's released this fall, so you might want to get in an early order to be certain of receiving a copy. We’ll post samples of Mike's artwork in the next few weeks.

Signed Page Adds Hardcover Storm Front
Posted by priscellie on Mar 04 08

Not to be one-upped by Dog-Eared Books' virtual signing, The Signed Page has just announced that they will be offering fifty hardcover copies of Storm Front, the re-release of Harry Dresden's first adventure! Like Small Favor, the signature can be personalized. Place your order here!

If you want to add Storm Front to a previous order, please write Shawn and notify him; he can reimburse the second $9.95 shipping fee and ship the two books together, if applicable.

I think it's clear that when two bookstores compete, the fans win!

Another Virtual Signing!
Posted by priscellie on Feb 28 08

Fans wanting a signed copy of Jim's most recent works have an alternative to The Signed Page. Dog-Eared Books held several virtual signings for Jim in the past, celebrating the releases of White Night, Cursor's Fury, and Proven Guilty, and now they're back again!

This time, Jim will be signing Small Favor, Captain's Fury, and the new paperback release of White Night. His wife Shannon will be signing both of her romantic suspense titles, No Regrets and No Control.

Visit Dog-Eared Books' website for more information, and discuss this topic on the forums here!

Small Favor Pre-Order Madness!
Posted by priscellie on Feb 26 08

A little over a month remains until Small Favor hits shelves!

Folks in the US have a variety of choices when it comes to snagging the book itself! Here are our favorites:

The Small Favor audiobook, also released April 1st, can be purchased from Amazon and Buzzy Multimedia. Like the first four audiobooks, it is read by James Marsters. The audios for books 5-9 will depend on the audio sales of "Small Favor" and upon Mr. Marsters' schedule and availability.

International Fans Rejoice! For the first time, the Orbit/UK release is nearly simultaneous with the American release. Pre-order Small Favor (or should we say Small Favour?) from Amazon UK, for an April 3rd release.

As many of you have noticed, the forum is down. It should be back within the next 24 hours.

Fred explains:

My provider has decided, again, that there's a problem with the amount of use the site sees. They're going to be upgrading my account and (probably) moving it to a new server that gives me a bigger share of the resources. This could mean we'll be down for around a day.
Thank you for your patience!

Small Favor and Comic Update
Posted by priscellie on Feb 19 08

The fourth and final Small Favor sample chapter has been posted! Read them all here, then discuss them here on the forum.

Eager to get your hands on a copy of Small Favor? You can preorder it from Amazon through the Jim-Butcher.com store in hardcover or in audio format, performed by James Marsters. Both are due out April 1st--and that's no joke! (You can also pick up the Captain's Fury audio book, performed by Kate Reading and released March 27th.)

Alternately, you can also participate in The Signed Page's Small Favor Virtual Signing! If you don't mind waiting a few extra days, you can get a copy of the book signed and personalized by Jim. On that website, you can also find a list of all the cities Jim will be touring to promote Small Favor. Hope to see you there!

On the graphic novel front, we finally have a release date for the first issue of "Welcome to the Jungle": April 16th! Check out Diamond's Comic Shop Locator to find the retailer nearest you. We encourage fans to fill out this form and bring it to their local retailer to ensure they get a copy of the book. The best way to make sure these books keep coming out is to buy the Single issues at your local comic shop!

"Welcome to the Jungle" is a four-issue prequel to Storm Front written by Jim Butcher and penciled by Ardian Syaf. Inks are by Joe Pimentel, and the covers are by Ardian Syaf and Chris McGrath. Find out more (and check out the cover art) on the forum!

Also, if you have questions for the Dabel Brothers that you would like to hear asked on the Butcher Block podcast, you have ONE MORE WEEK to submit them! Details here.

A Call For Comic Questions!
Posted by priscellie on Feb 06 08

The next episode of The Butcher Block will feature a Q&A with a representative from the Dabel Brothers, publishers of the upcoming Dresden Files comic, and we'd like to hear from YOU!

Call 301-6377-HAT (301-637-7428). After Fred's message plays and you get the beep, tell us your name (and/or your forum name) and where you're calling from, then give us your questions for the Dabel crew! Alternately, you can record your question yourself (we recommend Audacity) and email the file to thebutcherblock AT gmail DOT com.

If you'd rather your question be read by Fred, you can still post questions in this thread or email them to thebutcherblock AT gmail DOT com.

Deadline for submissions is Monday, February 25th.

We invite everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to get involved and be heard on the podcast!
