New Book Blurbs

Amazon.com brings us blurbs for Captain’s Fury, fourth book in the Codex Alera, and “It’s My Birthday Too,” Jim’s short story in the upcoming Many Bloody Returns. Here they are!
Captain’s Fury:

After two years of bitter conflict with the hordes of invading Canim, Tavi of Calderon, now Captain of the First Aleran Legion, realizes that a peril far greater than the Canim exists-the terrifying Vord, who drove the savage Canim from their homeland. Now, Tavi must find a way to overcome the centuries-old animosities between Aleran and Cane if an alliance is to be forged against their mutual enemy. And he must lead his legion in defiance of the law, against friend and foe-before the hammerstroke of the Vord descends on them all.

“It’s My Birthday Too”

New York Times bestselling author Jim Butcher’s crime-solving wizard Harry Dresden, of the Dresden Files novels, heads to a role-playing party to give his vampire brother a birthday present in “It’s My Birthday Too,” only to discover there are some bloodthirsty party crashers who don’t share their brotherly love.

The Future of the Dresden Files

DearAuthor.com brings us good news about the future of The Dresden Files:

You know you are big time when you get to sell unnamed book 12 and unnamed book 13.
Jim Butcher’s DRESDEN FILES 12 and DRESDEN FILES 13, new books in the successful series, now also a television show, featuring Harry Dresden, wizard-for-hire, in Chicago, to Anne Sowards at Roc, in a significant deal, by Jennifer Jackson at the Donald Maass Literary Agency.

Looks like we’re safe for the time being!
Jim has stated on several occasions that he is planning to write a total of about 20 Dresden Files “case books” like those we’ve read so far, then cap off the series with an Apocalyptic Trilogy. The tenth book in the series, Small Favor, is due out in Spring 2008.

Short Story Updates!

Last October, Jim delighted audiences with his short story “Something Borrowed,” published in P.N. Elrod’s anthology My Big Fat Supernatural Wedding. Publishers Weekly called Jim’s story “the book’s best romp,” and it recently won third place in Reviewers International Organization 2006 for “Favourite Story from an Anthology.”
Now the anthology’s success has spawned a sequel, My Big Fat Supernatural Honeymoon, and Jim will be participating, along with Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Caine, P.N. Elrod, Caitlin Kittredge, Katie MacAlister, Marjorie M. Liu, Lilith Saintcrow, and Ronda Thompson! There’s no release date set yet, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as more information is available.
Also look for Jim’s short story “It’s My Birthday Too” in the anthology Many Bloody Returns, edited by Charlaine Harris, to be released September 3rd. The prompts for the stories in this collection are “a vampire” and “a birthday.”
