  1. If this show is canceled I’ll have absolutely no reason to watch the Scifi channel until BSG comes back (except for the occasional cheesy lame-o mini-series).
Sure the show is quite different from the books, but that’s what makes watching the show AND reading the books good. If they were too similar I’d lose interest somewhere in there. We can’t all be literary snobs.

  2. Although I was disappointed about the casting and writing I must say it was getting better. I would rather have the tv version of the “Dresden Files” on that not have it. There are not that many good shows on Sci-Fi channel, they do not give new shows time to flourish and get better, this will be one of them. Until BSG and Dresden comes back the only shows I am watching is SG1 and Atlantis. Sci-Fi do not make another mistake and cancel a good show like Dresden Files while keeping bad shows like Pain Killer Jane.

  3. The first episode left me with slight disappointment and yet there was an odd sense of “something” in this series. I watched the second episode and didn’t stop. Though the series lacks the depth and breadth of the books, each episode was better than the last. There is real promise here of expanding and deepening these characters. Why oh why Connie and not Karrin??? What they did with Murphy I had a hard time with and still do. But she’s gritty, she’s vulnerable… she’s slowly growing on me. I do like what they’ve done with Bob. Capturing a sparkly essence on the small screen and making him “real” in the way he needed to be would have been a tall order. Having him “personified” does not take away from what he is; it’s a device and it works.
I’ll keep watching the series. I’ll buy the DVD season when it comes out. I’m hoping for it to continue and build into what it can and should be. I would LOVE a movie (or movie series). More importantly, Jim, KEEP WRITING!!!! For that’s where Harry truly is… keep the stories coming.

  4. I started with the book series by getting the audio mp3 Stormfront (thanks to James Marsters having narrated it), and subsequently bought and read the rest of the series in the matter of about 3 weeks. I was hooked. I didn’t realize Dresden was a show on Sci fi until the last ep aired, then I purchased and watched the rest of the seaon on ITunes. That being said, I thouroughly enjoyed this show, and am beyond hopeful that Sci-Fi will bring me a season 2 and many more! I have fallen in love with the portrayal of Harry, Murphy, Bob and Morgan, and I’m even on board with the hockey stick “staff” and jeep. This series as the ability to delve into some great storytelling. Sci Fi – more please!

  5. I discovered the Dresden Files from a colleague Helen and I was able to see the last three epidsodes. I have read all of the books and I find the series fascinating (books and tv). I look forward to a new season os Sci-Fi.

  6. I love the TV version of Bob. He’s an interesting character in his own right, and he works much better on-screen than Bob-the-disembodied-spirit would. The TV version of Murphy could stand to be a bit more dangerous, but perhaps she’ll develop with time.
All-in-all, it’s a pretty good adaption to a 40-minute timeslot, and it’s definitely one of the better shows on SciFi (Stargate, sadly, has gone downhill in recent years).
Please, bring back the Dresden files next season.

  7. My wife,Gill and I are big fans of Harry D;bought Storm Front as a holiday read in summer 2005 and went back to the bookshop after the holiday and bought the next seven!!
So you can imagine the anticipation when we learned that the TV series was comimg to the Uk on Sky
But what a disappointment–the screenwriters have totally wrecked it
Harry is not tall enough, where is his long duster, wheres his underground lab why has Bob been turned into a human presence why is Murphy tall and brunette not 5ft and blond wheres the VW beetle wheres his mothers amulet wheres his white vampire half brother, wheres the cat Mister wheres the dog, Mouse Nothing is right -a travesty

  8. Lets hope the ‘channel of doom’ don’t cancel this one. I’m glad it’s shown on SKY in the UK as Im already boycotting Sciffy for the cancellation of SG1. Imagine, more cancellations and Sciffy will only have Wrestling left. Great show, love it rushing to read the books.

  9. I agree with the ones who want Dresden Files to come back I really love Harry and liked the way he can take everyday things and make a magic tool. ( the hocky stick and drum stick) really it feel like he is really in to this world and uses what is around him and not walking around with a pointed hat and wand etc. he seems more real and hey who really knows what goes bump in the night is not really real. well I have not read the books yet but I will I just like the show..and Paul Blackthorne can eat crackers well you know lol ps Bob I love the part he plays I would like to have a friend like that LOL

  10. Don’t cancel this show!!!! We love it! You run a show like painkiller jane but cancel a good one like Dresden? What gives? SCI Fi -FIGURE IT OUT!!!!!

  11. I love the show; (I saw it before I read any of the books) and after seeing the show, I went out and bought the books. I love both!!! I realize that the show doesn’t totally match the books. However, that is easy for me to forgive, because I enjoy the show so much. I really hope that they keep the series. It has been the only reason I watch the Scifi channel.

  12. Nothing would be more disappointing than if The Dresden Files does not return. It had gotten me watching the Sci-Fi channel again, recently. They would be foolish not to continue it when so many folks are digging their station because of it. It’s a great show, period. (And I am in total agreement with the Painkiller Jane comment recently posted.)
Thanks to you, Jim Butcher, for creating such a wonderful character. You have won me back to the world of fantasy after a long while of reading and watching only science fiction. I have only just begun the first book, but I have a feeling that I am in it for the long haul!

  15. I was totally jazzed to learn that they were making a Dresden Files t.v. series. I had just discovered the books not two months before the show’s debute. I had read the first four book sby the time the show came out. And I’ll admit, I was skeptical after watching the pilot. It was so different! They’d changed characters’ names and appearances, and left others out entirely! What gives?! But, being a newly devoted Butcher fan, I kept watching, and the show got better with each episode. And as some other forums have pointed out, if the show was going to be 100% like the books, why not just read the books?
I would love to see The Dresden Files come back for another season. Along with Ghost Hunters, it’s the only show on Sci FI worth watching.

  16. I think Jim Butcher is a legend for bringing us The Dresden Files, i have read every book and they just get better and better. I have to say i was a little disappointed with the first episode of the show, i mean having Murphy without the blond hair and Morgan as an African-American was weird. BUT the show ended up like the books just getting better every episode. I hope they don’t can the show after the first season. It has a lot of potential plus i’d like to see a couple more of the books adapted to the show, maybe make them two parters to get them more accurate to the books. I thank you Jim for writing the best books i have ever read.
