The Future of the Dresden Files

DearAuthor.com brings us good news about the future of The Dresden Files:

You know you are big time when you get to sell unnamed book 12 and unnamed book 13.
Jim Butcher’s DRESDEN FILES 12 and DRESDEN FILES 13, new books in the successful series, now also a television show, featuring Harry Dresden, wizard-for-hire, in Chicago, to Anne Sowards at Roc, in a significant deal, by Jennifer Jackson at the Donald Maass Literary Agency.

Looks like we’re safe for the time being!
Jim has stated on several occasions that he is planning to write a total of about 20 Dresden Files “case books” like those we’ve read so far, then cap off the series with an Apocalyptic Trilogy. The tenth book in the series, Small Favor, is due out in Spring 2008.

  1. Yeah! I might go into deterium tremors if he stops writing. I couldn’t go cold turkey.

  2. Oh, only 20 books of Harry Dresden? I need Dresden Files books…i need to know about magic,
Harry, Mouse, and Murphy and all…
NEED to read about POSITIVE EFFECTS of Magic.
IT Helps me at work…when the day is going badly…THANK YOU, JIM!!! Maybe one day you’ll come to Honolulu, Hawaii so we can meet and talk about Harry. Mahalo

  3. Huzzah!!
Congratulations Jim! Couldn’t happen to a better guy.
Long life to Harry, Bob and all the characters we’ve all come to love and hate.

  4. YEAH!!! This is awesome!
Although this also does make me extremely impatient, because it means we’ll have to make it antother 15 years or so before the series ends!
Jim! Please don’t die on us, man! lol

  5. Yeah! Cool stuff! The Harry Dresden Books rulez here in Germany too. Thanks god I can read and speak english so I dont have to wait for the german translation…
you wrote it, we read it…
by the way is here any chance to the TV show on dvd? Cause we never will get the show here in germany…

  6. Sometime I have some probs with the english slang like in the last book proven guilty “dresden taxo… you snuff it we stuff it…” does these means: you have something to transport, we will transport it? I think so, thats will make sense for me
sorry about my germlish (german slang…)

  7. “you snuff it we stuff it”
To snuff it = to die
    By extension:
To snuff something = to kill it
To stuff something = to preserve it after death

  8. Just wondering if anyone else is a little disappointed in the TV series? I mean Bob as a human? Even with the special effects, it takes away from the magic a lot. Also, where is the blue beetle?! Ever since I read the first book I’ve wanted one cause it seems that they can really take a beating! Mr. Butcher, I really love these novels. I’ve introduced them as my Author Study materials in my Intro to Lit. class. Thanks and good luck in the future!

  9. WoooHooo! Excellent news Jim!
I’ve finished all the current books & have started reading them for the 2nd time – they’re THAT good!! I can’t wait until the new book & all the others to follow!! Congrats, man!
Oh, & the TV show, while different, is STILL excellent in it’s own way. 🙂 Thanks you!!!

  10. So GLAD to hear the news of more Harry!!
Mr Butcher, thanks so much for creating such a wonderfully inventive character & your snappy dialogue ROCKS!
I’m on tenterhooks waiting to hear about season 2 of the SCI FI show…

  18. Love the books – I just re-read the whole series thus far in 10 days. Thus, my question becomes, any way the next book will be sooner than next spring? I’d hate to be in a fatal car accident before I get to read the next book.
