Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden’s lover-until she was attacked by his enemies, leaving her torn between her own humanity and the bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. Susan then disappeared to South America, where she could fight both her savage gift and those who cursed her with it.
Now Arianna Ortega, Duchess of the Red Court, has discovered a secret Susan has long kept, and she plans to use it-against Harry. To prevail this time, he may have no choice but to embrace the raging fury of his own untapped dark power. Because Harry’s not fighting to save the world…
He’s fighting to save his child.

  1. Will a kid change Harry’s life? Oh Hell yeah! I love my daughter but did she ever change my life!
And since Susan has “tainted” blood, what sort of child will he have? Will it have vampire tendencies, will it have the gift of magic? I can’t wait to find out!
And who will the child’s godfather be? Michael Carpenter? Bob the skull? Thomas? The suspense is killing me! LOL

  2. Personally, I wanna know what is up with Susan. “By the way, Harry, you have a daughter! Suprise! Just thought I’d mention it since I need your help to save her from a vengeful vampire!”
Sheesh! How selfish can you be? To keep Harry from his kid, and a little girl from her father! What a b****! Plus, I’m sure that little one would’ve been safer growing up somewhere like Ebenezer’s farm, with BOTH parents’ protection, than in S. America with a bunch of bloodthirsty vampires and half-vamps! Susan had better have a REALLY good explanation.

  3. WOW a kid jeese jim kill me with suspense will you. never saw that one coming. Cant wait for it to come out.

  4. I noticed the change from the past titles. It makes sense if things are going to change. Start with your title.

  5. *Looks at cover*
*Reads: Harry’s child has been kidnapped*
Let the bodies hit the floor.
    🙂

  6. Imagine, just try to imagine, the size of the can of whup ass that Harry is going to open.

  7. That’s the one thing I like about Butcher: always throwing curve balls at us. Personally, I’m glad he’s dropped this particular piece of what is sure to be an intricate, intriguing puzzle — it keeps us anxiously anticipating while allowing us the briefest glimpse of what might be. I just wish I’d caught this update before today.

  8. OH MY!!! I remember thinking how mean and heartless Susan was to be keeping her distance from Harry after her “accident”. How Harry must have suffered from the rebuff, yet he gave her the space, out of love, to let her handle the situation in her own way!
Harry would have done anything to be with Susan and to help her – and this is how she repays him by hiding his child!
    Poor, poor Harry.

  9. Thankfully i have small favors and turncoat next to me otherwise i think i would be twitching upon the floor in withdrawl at the mention of this book

  10. Why is everyone so suprised he has a child. I expected it to show up before this. Susan stayed away from Harry for his protection. Now that the child is old enough to need schooling, it a good time to introduce her into the story. Of course, I wasn’t surprised Murphy and Kincaid got together. You can’t have that much tension between two people without something happening.

  11. For those of you who are wondering, according to pretty much all the books in the series Magic is passed on matrilineal lines. Ergo, the kid probably isn’t magical — unless she’s actually Elaine’s, not Susan’s.
Then again, if that’s the case, shouldn’t Thomas have Magic?

  12. Well, I have faith in JB’s handling the child’s story arc. Harry handled Molly in a good way. So I think JB can very well handle Harry’s little daughter nicely in this book. Although its kinda funny, Harry learning how to handle teenager (as his apprentice), then goes to handle a kiddie. A little diffrent that the natural order :).

  13. screw susan. i hope she dies & harry gets his daughter. the book might get ruined if she stays 4 an indefinite amount of time coz shes boring now. the legacy thing 4rm his mother should be revealed now coz its getting so annoying now not wot it is. same with thomas. has he reverted 2 his vampire insticts or is he faking it or wot?!?!

  15. Hey, not only is the title different – one word instead of two – we get to see a portion of Harry’s face – previously shown only in profile.
Gimme more – ah, a girl can dream…
And yeah, what’s with the hat?

  16. I’d like to see Harry mix it up with the red court, he did start the war afterall. Jim hasn’t really written much about Harry’s role in the war since the duel with Ortega.

  17. Charity will have second sword it is clear.
Murphy will be driven from CPD by Rudolph and then also take the sword
I don’t know if it will happen in Changes but trend is unmistakable .

  18. Who is to say that the child is really Harry’s? What are his two weaknesses? Crying women and children in danger, if I wanted to be sure he was going to show up somewhere I would choose one of those pressure points. All the better if he thinks it is HIS child in danger.
Murphy is not going to take up one of the swords, kinda hard to balance a holy sword and an unholy boyfriend.

  19. I do think Murphy will evetually take up a sword. Her “evil” boyfriend is still half-human and often fighting evil.
Charity is not in a direct line to get a sword, but Daniel showed great bravery in Proven Guilty and is getting old enough to get his father’s sword.

  20. Charity has blood of kings and was called Lady by Lili the same as Murphy
She is master swordsmen same as Murphy ,She believe as strongly as Michael .
    All those hints are obvious.
