Ghost Story Publication Date Bumped to July

Following an in-interview announcement by Jim at MarsCon over the weekend, we’ve updated the site to reflect the new release date for Ghost Story: July 26, 2011.

Said Jim (paraphrased): “It came down to, readers could either get a half-assed story in April, or a full-assed one in July!”

While the delay is unfortunate for folks hoping to get their hands on Harry in April, we have confidence Jim will be able to deliver a gripping tale for our Summer reading roster.

You can discuss the release-date news on our forum boards.

In game-related Dresden news, the Dresden Files RPG crew released a free downloadable adventure for the game this past Monday. Titled “Neutral Grounds,” you can learn more about it at the announcement page.

Foreign Language Edition Dresden Novels for Charity

Ever been curious to see what Dresden looks like in Hebrew, Russian, Chinese, French, Dutch, and more? Want to help out some folks in need? Check out the following email from Julie Woodman:

Hi! I have a bunch of books that Jim gave to me to auction for charity again. I have a decent sized stack (20+ books) of autographed foreign language editions of his various Dresden Files books — mostly the earlier ones. I started putting them on ebay yesterday — all of the money (minus my shipping and ebay cost) will go to charity — specifically, the Truman Medical Center’s Behavioral Health Futures program which provides mental health services to children and families.
I hope to get them all posted in the next few days. 🙂 […] I am setting them up for 7 day auctions so I can *hopefully* get them out for Christmas.
[…] I am sure users of the forum might be interested in such things, especially when the money goes to charity.
Thanks!
julie

Jim participates in Worldbuilders 2010

Patrick Rothfuss, author of the much-lauded The Name of the Wind, is reprising his massive Worldbuilders fundraiser, benefiting Heifer International. Heifer is a global charity that helps people raise themselves up out of poverty and starvation. All over the world, Heifer promotes education, sustainable agriculture, and local industry. And Worldbuilders will match 50% of donations, meaning that a ten-dollar donation becomes fifteen dollars for Heifer!
Pat has accumulated a truly staggering number of contributions from writers, publishers, and other creatives that are being raffled or auctioned off to fans. For every 10 bucks you donate, your name will get entered into the drawing once, so $30 means three chances to win. Among over a thousand ridiculously cool autographed books, special edition works from Subterranean Press, and ARCs from your favorite writers, you could win any of the following Jim-related goodness:

  • Jim Butcher donated autographed copies of Grave Peril and Changes.
  • Subterranean press donated five signed and numbered limited leather-bound editions of Jim Butcher’s Backup, a novelette from Thomas’ point of view, illustrated by Mike Mignola. These go for hundreds of dollars on the collector’s market!
  • Alera map illustrator Priscilla Spencer donated an 18″x24″ Codex Alera Map poster signed by Jim and herself.

Pat is adding more items to the prize list every day, so keep an eye on his blog. If you have any questions, be sure to check out the FAQ first, then ask them in Pat’s blog comments rather than here.
The fundraiser ends December 13th, so be sure to check it out soon! Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to contribute to a worthy cause, and perhaps win some cool stuff in the process.

New titles from Subterranean Press

Subterranean Press has made the following announcement:

First, we should let you know that we’re down to the last twenty copies of Jim Butcher’s Grave Peril, the third entry in our Signed Limited Editions of the Dresden Files. We have the next three books, Summer Knight, Death Mask, and Blood Rites, under contract, as well as Side Jobs, his short story collection.
We’re now accepting preorders for both Summer Knight (projected to ship this Spring) and the short story collection, Sides Jobs (slated for the Fall). If you order both now, this week only, we’re offering $50 off the regular price of $150 for the two volumes.
Summer Knight has been fully proofread, and sent out to be illustrated by Vincent Chong. In fact, it’s next up on his to do list. The signature pages are being printed, and will be sent in the next two weeks to Jim Butcher to fit into his schedule. For Side Jobs, we’re commissioning Vincent to provide an illustration for each story, including the ultra-rare novelette, “Backup”, and the brand new 80 page novella, “Aftermath.” Both of these volumes will be printed on 80# Finch paper, with designs that complement earlier entries in the series.
