A glimpse of the Dresden Files TV show during Sci Fi’s The Triangle

Did you blink? You might have missed it … but we got our first glimpse of the Dresden Files TV show in a teaser of 2006’s movies and shows from the Sci Fi channel just before the second part of their Triangle miniseries.
This is exciting, folks. More to the point, this is real. We’re actually going to see it, and as fans of Jim’s success, it’s going to be on our heads to make sure this thing flies. Tell your friends. Get the buzz going early. If we’re going to see this thing turn into a full-on series, we need to get the viewership out and active by the time this bad boy hits the airwaves.
“But enough with the rah-rah sis-boom-bah, Fred,” you say. “Show me the pictures!” Well, since you asked so nice…

We got all of three seconds of this. SciFi’s calming female voice says, “Solving crimes… in a magical way.” and we get our glimpse. Here’s the three key images we saw:
Paul Blackthorne, as Harry Dresden, leans in to have an up-close conversation with a dark-haired woman. We know from the casting announcement that this could be Murphy we’re seeing come in from off-frame, but it could just as easily be Bianca or someone else we haven’t heard about. But check out them apples — Blackthorne really does look the part!

A sexy brunette looks down from a balcony, dressed to the nines. Smart money here says that’s probably Bianca — even with the haircolor reversal in casting, it’s a pretty good guess to say that Murphy’s not going to get caught dead in makeup and a get-up like this one. We also know that the movie’s at least somewhat based on Storm Front, so the likelihood that Bianca will show up in there is high … and, just to bring a little skullduggery into this, her number of scenes would be likely to be few, so it wouldn’t be shocking if they did the shooting of her scenes early so they could be done with eating up that actress’s time…

Blackthorne as Harry again, on the scene, investigating … what? We’re not quite sure here. The red wall seems menacing, and the stuff on the wall there might be … weapons? Hard to say. Is this a crime scene or a villain’s lair? We won’t know until the movie hits the airwaves.

  2. Dave, it’s called “The Next Volume Gnome.” It specializes in disrupting continuity.
    I wish we had cable.

  3. I was shocked when I saw the teaser for the Dresden Files as I really enjoyed the books (Yes I got hooked!!!). Suffice to say that thanks to TIVO as soon as it comes on it will be recorded (and if as good as the books – saved!) Keep writing Jim…. and thanks for the sleepless nights…. 🙂

  4. dont read much fant.novels but read about d-files in sci-fi mag ,thought ill check it out wow!!!! glad i did, on book four now. never stop this series

  5. WHAT A CHARISMATIC FELLOW WITH A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR. PERFECTLY CASTED!

  6. there’s a website for commentors of Jim Butcher’s books. It’s adequately named Mcanally’s. If you’ve read any Dresden books, you know why. It’s been posted that the series will air in January 2007. It’ll start as a two hour premier, and supposedly the SciFi channel has agreed to film and air at least 11 episodes. I guess after that, they need to see what the numbers look like. The show is @ 1.7 mil an episode, so tell everyone you know to watch. I love these books. I’m not a big scifi person per say, but Jim Butcher has a great voice. His characters make me laugh out loud, which is funnier when I wake my husband up at 1 am cause I can’t put the book down!!

  7. In case you didn’t see this…
Harry Dresden: Paul Blackthorne (think we figured that one out LOL)
    Lt. Murphy: Valerie Cruz
    Susan: Revecca McFarland
    Morgan: Conrad Coates
    Bianca: Joanne Kelly

  8. Hells Bells!!! I had no idea the series was popular enough to get a tv series. Ive never been happier to be wrong. I have 30 pages left of Dead Beat as I type this and then on to Proven Guilty. I read about 120 scifi/suspense/horror/fantasy books in the last year and when I got Storm Front I wasn’t expecting it to turn out to be my favorite series EVER!

  9. This is really exciting! I don’t have cable myself, but I’m going to be heading over to a friend’s house to watch. (Could the brunette in the top picture be Susan, by any chance?) I just finished cajoling one of my friends into reading the series herself, and plan to spread it as far as I possibly can. : ) I’d imagined Dresden’s hair as being a bit shaggier/longer than it looks in the picture, but I think that it’s a great casting choice. Can hardly wait!

  10. Nah, the brunette isn’t Susan…sadly, according to the IMDB casting list on this, Susan is blonde and Murphy is brunette…the two actresses look like they were picked backwards to me, but of course I wasn’t there.
    Looking forward to this one!

  11. I starting reading these books after I ahppened to grab Dead Beats on my way out of B & N. I then read the other six books as quickly as I could get them shipped in.(Thanl goodness we get free shipping with Amazon.) I spent only a couple hours on each of them, they were so addicting I couldn’t put them down. That why tonight when the comercial coame on that they were making into a show(?) I almost fell out of my chair. My brother thought I was choking because I kept hitting his leg but I can’t help it I was excited. I can’t wait till it premieres so I had to chare my excitement with someone. Wow, I just realized that my posting is super long. Sorry but still I’m really excited. . .o.k. I’ll shut up now. . . bye!

  12. I just read my posting and realized there were tons of spelling errors. No one lease look at that , I swear I’m normally alot smarter than that. Here is my revised posting.
