Dead Beat’s first run sells dry

Word from Jim:
“Just thought I’d let you guys know that the first run of Dead Beat sold dry in three days. They’re sending the book back to the press for another run, which is fairly unusual for hardbacks, according to my editor. Neat stuff!”
Later:
“15k on the first run. New copies can come out anywhere from a week to a month later. Note that there are still copies available, but they’re all in the pipeline from distributors to stores, and the orders to restock ate up the tiny surplus copies. If they handle it right, there shouldn’t be a problem with actually acquiring the book from the bookstore-customer standpoint.”

  1. I have a copy of deadbeat(and all 6 of the others Dresden File’s titles). Read it EXCELLENT as is the rest of the series! So when can we expect the next installment? The books are great and I can hardly wait for the next one! More Murphy please!

  2. I am at loss at what to say…..this whole series has been incredible. “Dead Beat,” was,”Totally wicked.” The only statement I can give you Mr. Butcher that will give you the credit you deserve is, when is the next one coming out?!?!

  3. Does anyone else think that Ebenezar McCoy is the one who betrayed the Senior Council. Its a little convienent that he convinced the council to join the fight and he didn’t go to the hospital. I think Ramirez is possibly dirty too.

  4. Hey,
Any chance the previous books will be out in hard back? (I’d love to have the whole collection in hardback!) Thanks!

  5. Just finished reading “Dead Beat,” and all I have to say is, “what a ride!” It was certainly most worth the cost of the hardcover…if not more. I know it will probably be another year before we see another Dresden book, but, to quote Harry, “hell’s bells, it’s worth the wait!”

  6. Is there any world if/when Dead Beat will be offered in paperback? Thank you.

  7. Just wanted to praise Dead Beat, I picked it up yesterday and just could not put it down, I finished it at 1230 last night and I am already looking forward to another. I feel that there must be something major coming in the Harryverse, I would like to find out what happened on Murphy’s trip to Hawaii before I point any fingers at a possible traitor.
May the Forzare be with you

  8. Jim–
Would just love to say “Dead Beat” is the best so far, although I keep saying that of every Dresden book you write…way to go…
I love the whole series, started reading it because of James Marsters, and the first book had me hooked.
I love that you included so many of the previous characters, I feel they make Dresden react and feel so much of how he does. I love that he might actually make Lasciel behave “differently”, after all, everyone can change – all it takes is a catalyst, and Harry is all that and more.
I absolutely Love Mouse, he is too special. I had a Shepperd who we all thought read our minds, he was too amazing, and Mouse acts like he did. I would love for there to be a Uber-Bond with him and Harry- after all- Harry needs one being he can count on NO MATTER WHAT.
I hope Ebenezer is not bad, Harry needs one mentor figure that is good, but with flaws, everyones has them, and Harry just has to see that they can be flawed but loving.
Needless to say, I want more Harry and soon, I have now started rereading the series because I just need that Harry-fix. Please write more soon, and make them as jam packed with possibilities as possible- the Sidhe being one i really love and Thomas the other.
    Thanks again, keep on writin…..

  9. Yes, yes! I admit it! I began the Dresden Files on Audio to hear more of the delicious voice of James Marsters but … let me tell you I have now purchased print copies and audio recordings of all The Dresden Files books.
I just can’t get enough of this story line and these characters.
The much awaited ‘Dead Beat’ is fantastic, but then I’ve said that about all the previous books as well.
I’m also demanding enough to ask ‘When do we get another book in the series and when do we get the fourth book on audio?’

  10. I purchased Dead Beat and read it the day it came out, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve succeeded in getting several friends and coworkers started on these books (and I know they

  11. Dead Beat was great. I relly liked Butters. “Polka will never die!” Mouse is cool too.
I also loved how the scared the crap out of Mavra in the end, saying how much power he could get if he wanted it. If you think about, it’s a whole lot.
I’d like to see more of Michael in the upcoming books. I think it’s cool when they have the whole team thing going. Although I’d bet he could sense Lasciel in Harry…
Great book, keep ’em coming. Hope to see one before Christmas this year.

  12. Read the book in one sitting. Just could not put it down, the series just keeps getting better. I hope that the rumored series keeps up the quality of the books.

  13. Having read it about three times I can now say, “Really loved the book”.
Any chance for a theory post? It would be a good opportunity to play with ideas while we’re waiting for the next story.
My thought is that Merlin is the bad apple on the council, he’s too powerful to be so against Harry, there must be a reason for it.

  14. I loved Dead Beat. I loved Mouse, Butters and I really enjoyed Sue. How cool was that?! My daughter and I talked about the book after we both read it for an hour – she couldn’t wait for me to finish so we could hash it out.
I can’t wait for the next installment of the Dresden series, and am looking forward to the next in Codex Alera.
    Thanks Jim!!

  15. I just finished reading this book and absolutely loved. Can’t wait another year for another one of Harry’s adventures. I missed seeing Susan and Michael, but have hopes to see them again. Also enjoyed meeting new characters. Keep it up Jim,I’ll be there right with you to enjoy your books.

  16. I’m a Japanese living in Canada, so my English skill is not good. But I love reading Harry’s adventures. I’m still in middle of Dead Beat, and I love it so far. And last night I found something on the cover picture,it says “matrix” on Harry’s staff in Japanese. What ‘s that supposed to mean?

  17. I’m late getting to the site, but I just wanted to say congrats. This is a book that I waited for with bated breath. It did not disappoint me. I laughed and yelled at the Harry the entire time. (I am loving the Codex Alera stuff too, and just today actually reserved a copy of Academ’s Fury.)
Also- Please please re release the Dresden files in hard cover. Paperback doesnt last long enough.
