  1. I love all of Jims books, and I was so happy that they wanted to make a series out of them, BUT I’m alittle leary about Scifi channel doing it. I wish they could have gotten another more relable station.. Scifi has has a history of getting or starting great shows, then doesn’t promote them then cancels them.. I hope they are as go as the books and they keep to them as much as possible

  2. The limited info on the Sci-Fi channels website is making me a little worried. I love the books I’m currently on the seventh, however, I noticed that they have already changed Karrin’s name to Connie and wonder what else they have messed with.
I’ve always thought you should try to get a Dresden movie going but to settle for Sci-Fi channels cheesy under-effort low budgeted adaptations seems to somehow cheapen Dresden in a shameful way.

  3. I”m a big fan of all of Jim butcher book and I was wondering when is the sci-fi channel going to show the dresden files.

  4. January 2007 for the movie and whatever episodes (I’ve heard both 11 and 13) after that sometime.

  5. Connie Murphy????? I don’t mind them changing her to being brunette, but “Connie”? C’mon. It just doesn’t have the right ring to it.

  6. I know, I dont like the change to Connie either but apparently there is a real Karrin (or some similar spelling) Murphy on the Chicago police force so they had to change it. The casting is somewhat bothering me though. Their pictures dont seem to match the desctiptions in the book (i.e. morgan is susposed to be tall and built but some skinny guy is playing him). Also, Scifi has entered politically correct mode changing ethnicities of major characters to broaden appeal (karrin=hispanic, susan=irish, morgan=black….). The principle behind it doesn’t bother me, it just makes me worry about what else they are going to change in order to get more viewers. Jim’s books are awesome and I love each of them how they are, but a gaggle of sci fi writers might change too many things and limit the tv series.
by the by…great second chapter of Cursor’s Fury.

  7. Umm, all of the people dissing the prospect of the changes being made for the TV version and who’s actually behind it obviously haven’t been reading the messages from Executive producer and co-writer of the pilot script, Robert H. Wolfe, here on the messages bases (and on http://www.exisle.net).
They have filmed a two hour pilot episode and are following that with 11 hour episodes for a total of 13 hours. According to Wofle, plans are to air it at 10 pm Friday nights following Battlestar Galactica starting in January, 2007.
Yes, there have been some changes made in character names and such, but if you read through the messages you’ll get the whole story. BTW, that Jim Butcher guy seems to be fine with it…

  8. This is true, but I think Sci Fi is trying to turn over a new leaf. “Eureka” was heavily promoted, hopefully the Dresden Files will be as promoted.

  9. I love Harry et al. I don’t like the changes I’ve heard about. I probably won’t watch the TV show. Change isn’t always a good thing.

  10. Cheapen Dresden?? You have read the books, right? Instead of getting a movie, where the powers that be would change all of the same things and then some, we are getting the Blue Beetle version of what we all want. Is that not fitting? Don’t get me wrong, I think the books deserve God to direct the movie, Satan to produce it, and Chuck Norris to bless the whole ordeal, but come on! Have faith! Look at Battlestar. They are kicking ass with a show that was supposed to be a mini series. Maybe the truck that I have heard Harry is supposed to drive could be dubbed the White Rabbit or something in keeping with the named vehicule theme (not to mention the VW theme). All in all, I am very happy (even overjoyed) that Jim Butcher has gotten a chance to put his character out there for more people to see. After all, the more people who see it, the more books he sells, the more books he writes.

  11. Anyone ever read “The Deathlands” series then catch the Sci-Fi movie???
    Gives me shivers

  12. Look, I’m just glad that they aren’t changing Harry’s name. I heard early on that they were changing it to Eric Dresden. Which, while it is Houdini’s real first name, would not have been the same. Now that I’m sere that isn’t going through I’m willing to give this show a shot, even if it is one in the dark.

Ok, I’m not a big fan of many of the changes either but let’s not lose track of what this is all about, furthering the career of a wonderful author. So let’s all try to look past the small negatives and give this show a chance. I, for one, am just glad that the series has gone on so long. It will be a sad day for me when the book series finally comes to it’s conclusion.

  14. CONNIE??????? WTF? That name BLOWS. The only thing that comforts me in that regard is that Harry usually calls her ‘Murphy.’ That is a small saving grace- at least, if the show follows the books.
I agree with the concerns with regards to the Scifi channel; however, HBO is already doing Charlaine Harris’ excellent novels, so I guess that it’s too much to ask of God for HBO to adapt BOTH of my fave authors.
I personally love the fact that I have yet another way to absorb Harry.
