  1. :O
I’ll be there to easy the pain I already feel for the year I have to wait for the next book to come out.
The ending of Changes is just CRUEL to readers!

  2. The ending of ‘Changes’was depressing. I guess I should have guessed since all the other books have two-word titles. Faithful followers of the ‘Files’ looked at Harry as a force of goodness in the hard, blood thirsty and often times cruel world. He may not have always had the best solutions, but his heart was good. I have ALL of the Dresden File books and was saddened by how things turned out in ‘Changes’. I just hope this isn’t the end…dang!

  3. Changes was some of your best writing yet!
I can’t wait to read the next book.
    Kill those characters off.. lol

  4. What they don’t realize is that Harry Dresden actually did die at the end of Changes, and for the next book, Ghost Story, its all about Murphy investigating his death. The shooter is the bar owner, McAnalley(sp?). Murphy shoots him down. Thomas commits suicide in this episode for a reason not given till the next book… titled “Partners” in which Harry’s apprentice Molly takes over the Detective Agency in this issue.. with Murphy as a partner. Ebenezer dies. A bunch more wizards die. The white court wipes out the black court. Millions stop believing in fairies, causing mass deaths there. The final book “End Game” has Murphy, Molly and the dog in a triangular show down in the middle of a Civil War Graveyard ala The Good The Bad and The Ugly.. Come on people its just a book series, and Jim Butcher is trying to entertain us. I found Changes a very good read, and the ending kept me interested in what would happen next. Just go with it. Fictional characters here. just read and enjoy.

  5. i cant see how a series writen in the first person can continue whithout the main character

  6. Harry’s death at the end of Changes could be another spin on “Gandalf.” Perhaps now we’ll see the white wizard Harry be able to throw off the chains fo Mab? Maybe a journey to the other side and see how Harry reunites with his physical self? Jim has just opend a portal to an interesting plot line.

  7. OK, so i know it looks like he dies at the end, and maybe he does (Sort of). this could be another event like when he died to get out of the deal with the faires. He even mentioned how he couldnt die in peace either with the light and noise at the end. I think this is a way out of his deal with the winter court. Or some way for him to get more powerful. Jim mentioned somewhere that he planned on doing twenty some odd books as well, this cant be the end. there are way to many loose ends and Harry has to be the main role. it would not be the same with someone else as the main character.

  8. I have everything JB has written after reluctanly purchasing the first Dresden Files on a friend’s say so. . . I have thoroughly enjoyed them and have infected many of my friends with the Dresden Files bug! . . . After reading CHANGES, I found myself torn. I did enjoy the book, tho I admit that all the clues were there throughout that Harry wasn’t going to come out of this one well. I hope that this ISN’T the end, and have to say, I didn’t like that Harry didn’t have even a modicum of comfort or happiness in his life at the end. Jim, you could’ve at least let Harry and Murphy hook up ONCE dammit! . . . But as soon as she left to clean up, and come back “in an hour”, I knew Harry was screwed. Hah! The boat had a shower, and for what they had planned, she didn’t need clean underwear, lol. . . Ah well. The character of Harry Dresden belongs to Jim Butcher, to mistreat as he sees fit.

  9. love this series. The characters have a depth and feel to them that makes you feel attached whether by love or hate it

  10. hope they make a movie out of changes…
james masters as harry; robin tunney (with blond hair) as murphy….
    what do u think?? 🙂

  11. no offence but you guys should realy check out every thing on this site before you comment. the compilation of short storys that comes out in november contains a story titled AFTERMATH witch takes place 45 min after harrys shot. Its about what happened and how he survives. So we only have to wait 5 months ish wich still kinda sucks.oh and by the way there not fictional characters there real atleast to me. LONG LIVE HARRY BLACKSTONE COPPERFIELD DRESDEN.

  12. I can’t believe that Jim Butcher would get rid of Harry – how can they be the Dresden files and written in the first person without Harry? He’s real to his followers and it would take a chunk out of our lives. And may I suggest that Jim, who after all has two hands, speeds up on the writing bit? I may pine away waiting for the next book in the saga.

  13. Thanks to everyone who gave away the ending in the comments section!! I haven’t read it yet, at lease I WON’T be surprised when I get there.

  14. As much as I love Butcher’s writing I have to wonder if he hasn’t gone too damn far in treating Harry like his own personal whipping boy. Come on, Jim. Give the poor bastard a break and us as well. Try giving Harry some
personal triumph and happiness in at least one novel before the series ends. So what if the politically correct don’t invite you to the right parties afterwards…we buy your books in far greater numbers than they do.

  15. I think Jim knows what he’s doing. What a cliffhanger… Don’t you think everyone is going to be anxiously waiting for the next book to come out? I don’t know if I can wait a whole year.

  16. STOP GIVING AWAY THE ENDING. some of us are just looking around the site. we stumble over this page and there it is. I’m on book 5, working my way through them and now it’s ruined for me!
