Optimistic…. wow, I can’t spell this late at night.
Honestly, just having a voice coming out of a skull with a pair of glowing eyes would be just cheesy on TV. Great in books not so much on TV. Bob isn’t a skull he’s a spirit who resides in a skull, he comes out of it frequently, maybe that’s what he’ll look like out of the skull. To early to say on the duster though…
ok, for a start, why isn’t Bob a skull?! secondly, why is murphy not called karrin and why does she have long brown hair? dont even get me started on morgan and why on earth is carmicheal not carmicheal?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously freaked out and shouldn’t harry be much taller?
Apparently Karrin is not Karrin because evidently there is actually a Karen Murphy working for the CPD, and therefore, they changed the name.
They also liked the actor for the Carmichael part but since he didn’t look like a Carmichael they made him Kirmani.
Paul Blackthorne is 6′ 5″, the same as Harry.

I want to remain hopeful, but Sci-Fi disappoints me way too often to be as such. BTW, Sci-Fi didn’t do the original Stargate (blech), Showtime did. Don’t know if they are under the same company though. I just hope it’s somewhat the same. We all knew it wasn’t going to be exactly the same as the books. Anyone who thinks otherwise is dellusional.

I am I to understand it that there will just be a series no pilot movie? I had thought Jim had said they had already done the movie, that it was based on “Storm Front” and that the series would take off from there? Does anybody know what happend? if there is a Movie do we ever get to see it ?
The series will contain the pilot movie as the episode “Storm Front”, which they’ve decided to air a little deeper into the series rather than as the first episode.
What a bunch of junk. Did Jim have anything to do with the TV Show? I can deal with Harry being different looking than I thought,but no duster? Bob is a skull, and as for it being cheesy on TV, my god, in this day and age of special effects, they could have done wonders. Murphy was BLONDE, not brunette, and so what that someone else has the same name, it is fiction, big disclaimer, any person or persons that have the same name or likeness blah, blah, blah, you see at the end of just about every movie these days. Morgan is way too different no other way to describe it. I will not be watching this, I enjoyed all of Jims books so far, and do not want it ruined by this travesty. Sorry Jim.
Alot of tv series and movies based on books have a tendency to dissapoint the readers so my advice when watching the series is try to come at it with a broad perspective if it doesnt follow the same story line or have the same names or the character dont look like what you what you throught he would look like just go with it and try not to combine the 2 into one let the books stay with the books and the show stay with the show dont try to analyze them together cause it will lead to being let down in one way or another as for me i liked the show and also so like the books and neither will keep me from enjoying the other and if there are any spelling errors sorry ahead of time not the best at grammar and i know its all one run on sentence if anyone agrees with me drop me a line and if anybody want to say i am dead wrong go ahead i dont care
Oh yes and about them turning Storm Front into part of the series try to treat it as a separate (spelt wrong?) entity from the book just in case you dont think they didnt follow the book good enough but i am sure it will be good
ok I was very excited when I first heard about a dresden tv series. I was so dissapointed, no blue beetle, a jeep instead. No duster, and Bob seems to have lost his raunchy sense of humor. Where’s the lab under the trap door? Karrin has become a rather well worn tall brunette and not a petite cute blond. Where’s the silver amulet and ring? I will watch again but probably not with so much enthusiasm. Oh well at least the anticipation was good.
I have been so excited about the series coming up and kept an open mind, am very familiar with book-t.v. adaptations and why they have to change certain things. However….
I am INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED. It was so dull. More happens in 10 pages of Butcher’s book than in the entire 1 hour program. Are they targetign a an audience that can’t keep up? Why are they making it so watered down?
I did like the actor Harry and Murphy seems okay if they have to go with a brunette. I can also understand why it’s more dynamic on screen to have Bob be in human form. I’m just so confused as to why they made it so boring….
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it picks up a bit. The affects with fade out and city pans were great, very Butcher-book like. They seriously need to pick up the pace a bit.
Makes me wonder how much they are letting Jim Butcher consult on it, if your reading Jim, please put some of your zing into it. Pleaaaaase?

i have a feeling that scifi and the shows producers its self had to dull it down from the books as not to alienate potential viewers who havent read the books and are into this genre of the shows so if they can get the people interested and maybe those people who become fans of the shows might try the books and find they like them to and if the series makes it throught the first season and has a good fan base they might be able to to make it a bit edgier as before i am sorry for spelling errors but they also had to take the chance of alienating faithful fans of the series but i am willing to bet that scifi took a gamble in hoping that those fans would be willing to try to give some leeway
First of all, the settings were ok but…what happened to the “Bug” isnt his car one of the main characters of the story..and to give him a “jeep” dont know??
And I might be mistaken but arent the “runes” along side Harry’s front door, carved in the wood? So, how could the skinwalker rip them off to get in?
humm? I am with Raymond, what up with the hockey stick..and even though it is modern day Chicago, and Harry does wear regular clothes, I miss the hat, and the long duster. (its part of the mystery)
but I will be out in front of my tv set every week, cause I cant miss this enfolding, wierd, suprising show. And we will see……….
I was wondering if the Dresden Files were worth watching because I saw that there was some major changes from the books to the show (like Karrin to Connie and Bob the skull is supposedly now a genie). Also, does anyone know when the show might air in Canada? cause i would like to judge for myself as well
if the tv series goes in chronilogical order with storm which i dont know if it does this would be before the storm front story line so may be by the time the comes around harry decides to put up wood instead of instead of the cloth ones he had in the first episode because they are harder to get rid of unlike the cloth ones the skinwalker had that girl tear down therefore making better protection and i do hope the make like 2 part episodes out of all the books because like one episode for sorm front just wont be enough to get through the hole story line of that one book even 2 is just cutting it close in my throughts
i’ve read all Jim’s “Dresden” books. i looked forward to the series premier as much as any of you. however i was forced to be at a place where there was no sci-fi channel. hospital tv sux!!!
anyway thanx to tivo i was able to catch it a few days late.
yes i realized in advance that tv adaptations can b quite disappointing, so i tried not to set myself up 4 a let down. keeping that in mind- i liked it.
i missed the duster, the beetle & Mister, but let’s remember that this is just the beginning.
so congratulations, Jim- i’d still do Harry.
