“Changes” is released today!
Unfortunately, it’s still not yet available for Kindle, but we hope Penguin and Amazon will resolve their differences before too long. We invite folks to share their thoughts on the forum, but please, confine your remarks to the “Spoilers” section, and always place clear warnings in the subject line when creating a new Changes-related thread. Remember that many of Jim’s fans don’t or can’t read the book the day it’s released, so please be cautious and courteous of your fellow posters.
If you haven’t gotten your copy yet, you can order it through the Jim-Butcher.com store!
And yes, there will be more books in the Dresden Files series. Jim has plans for at least 20 total!

I just read finished Changes. OMG OMG OMG.
Please, I don’t care whether it spoils it or not: PLEASE put the first chapter of the next book online ASAP. The book was amazing; the ending was painful! I am going to be haunted until book thirteen comes out.
GAH! Who needs drugs to get a rush like this?!
not related to changes, well kinda, I’m just about to get it in the post. but i can’t get onto the forums! for the last day now. anyone know how i can get on there?
PLease people… Spoiler warnings!
You unmitigated arse!
There will be another one, I pray.
WTF just happened!!!!!!
Just finished “Changes” and I have just one question: have you been hanging out with Joss Whedon, Mr. B? ‘Cause I’m left sitting here saying the same thing at you as I did at Joss Whedon after watching certain of his endeavors, and that is, “You bloody bastard!” Also, damn well done!
Now we just have to hang in there until book 13 is published… *unhappy sigh*
Have re-read Changes three times since Tuesday. Absolutely fantastic, in a leave you emotionally drained and totally incoherent sort of way. I already thought Jim was a genius, but I was only half right. He’s an EVIL genius! He should have never been allowed to read that overlord list.
Got it at 6 am Tues for my Sony Reader (knew there was a reason I didn’t go for the kindle…)Also on audible.com. Love James Marster’s reading performance…he does the end of Ch 48 really well. I hear the short story collection coming out this fall has one called “Aftermath” that is right after the end of Changes…but what are the odds THAT ends in a cliffhanger too??? Kudos, Mr. Butcher.
Words fail me. My brain fails me. I tip my imaginary hat to you, sir, and I PRAY that the thirteenth book comes out soon. Twenty minutes ago if you can manage it. Christ, what a ride!
Changes Indeed! Fantastic addition to the series! Questions answered while raising new ones, and a near complete rewrite of the rule-book. My only concern is I’m afraid Mr. Butcher will run out of things to throw at poor Harry before the proposed end of this series. Though, that in itself would be a refreshing change for our luckless hero … an entire book where he does nothing but kick ass WITHOUT bringing buildings down around his head in the process!
I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one going WTF??? at the ending. lol it’s going to be hell waiting for the next installment. This is the best series I’ve ever read and this is the best book so far.
Just finished reading Changes last night and I have only two things to say:
1 – WOW!!!!
2 – AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!
Jim, I am one of your most loyal and loving Dresden fans, and I am currently one of the most ticked off Dresden fans!!!!!!!!!!! I sure as heck hope there’s a 13th book in the series! I can’t believe your audacity. Please tell me the next book comes out sooner than a year from now??? I don’t know if I can manage to wait that long…Please don’t make this final, you’re better than that! This is your star series, and you can’t just let it go with such a let-down…Please keep writing about everyone’s favorite wizard…
All I can say is great book, and so glad there is to be more.
Shock. Pure shock and amazement. The best Harry story yet and most apt title. And I really don’t know how to deal with the wait for the next one. I’ve always been impatient.
@Phoenixx: Read the news that you just commented on. This is not the last book in the series. Note the bold type: “Jim has plans for at least 20 total!”
@Mr. Butcher: Well played, sir. Way to put the audience through the windshield. (In a good way!)
This series just gets better and better. I love how much thought you spend on your supporting characters and how much of a life they have when they’re not with Harry. Any of them (Murphy, Thomas, Molly, Susan, McCoy, Luccio, Ramirez, Butters, etc.) could easily be the star of his/her own series.
Thanks. These characters have joined the ranks of characters who are my “friends.”
All i can say is the ending made me feel like Leonid kravos had ripped out my heart. Totally blown away, I will most defiently miss Susan, but like the title says; this changes so much.
Please Jim, please don’t let the next release be a year from now! I know you wanted to have us all leaning on the edge of our seats, you’ve done that job, now please fill us all in with your next masterpiece
Dear Mr Butcher!
So Harry is swiming with the fishes…
a)
IF this is the END i buy a plane ticket and we will have a talk….
b)
IF this is a way to free Harry from the mantle of the winter knight with a little near death experience (Harry pledge to Mab to be his Knight until death so technicaly he would be free then some doctor could revive him)
Then i still think you are a sacistic evil genius…
But i will forgive you.
Ok, please, please, please let Mister be safe!
Nathan – I’m not counting Susan out yet. Look who her mortician is.
